School Shopping…In Kate Spade Keds :)

School ShoppingRemember how exciting it was to go shopping for school clothes and cute new shoes?
I live in a family of boys, and this time of year, we’re just shopping for a few updates to their school uniforms.
But all those packed department stores still make me think it would be fun to pick up a new outfit for just for me…
Add a few hints of Fall Color to your wardrobe with these pieces:
First, the shoes
When I was a kid, a good pair of tennies were back-to-school essentials.  I’ll never forget the dream pair I got for kindergarten.
Think of the possibilities with these limited edition Kate Spade Keds.  I love the charcoal stripes with soft mustard laces.  Fresh and Fun.
Next, Key Pieces
Mama always made sure my sister and I remembered our wardrobe staples before we added in the fluff.  Still good advice.  A Denim Shirt in Harvest Wash from Madewell , Vienna Jeans in Grey from Boutique1  and Clare Cardigan from J. Crew Factory will give you a hundred looks throughout the season.
Cute Accessories
Remember how you had to have the new earrings to make your back-to-school wardobe complete?   Do you still feel that way, too?  Affordable accessories let you add some color and trend to those staples mama made you buy.  To try: Scarf from ModCloth.
A Great Bag
You may not need a book bag, but every girl needs a new purse for the season.   Agreed?  Go for this pretty new Vary You Versatile Bag from Thirty-One and you’ll get two useful styles in one.  Click here, and I’ll even tell you how to get it on sale. ;)
So, what are the chances of me getting to take a little shopping trip just for myself this month?  Pretty slim.  But a girl can dream!
What are you dreaming of adding to your closet right now?

Monday in the Mediterranean

Mediterranean Hues II
Ready for another trip to the Greek Isles?
What could be more versatile than beautiful blue?  Last week, we took a look at cobalt blue in the home, see that post here.
Today, we’re mixing up looks for one super-cute cobalt-colored top.  Isn’t it perfect?

On it’s own, as a cover-up, or layered over another top, this tunic is a great example of how one hard-working wardrobe piece can give you dozens of outfit choices.  See the image below for the inspiration.
How many different ways could you mix it in with pieces you already own?

Try Trompe L’oeil for April Fool’s Day

April Fools Day- Try Trompe L'oeil!
I don’t know about you, but in a house full of crazy boys, we just let April Fool’s Day pass by without ever saying  a word.
I mean, come on, do they really need an excuse to get into mischief? :)
And I know I’m not the only one;  I overheard this conversation between a first-grade-ish granddaughter and her grandmother in the grocery store one year.
Girl:  The kids at school said that today you can make things up and play tricks on people, and nobody gets in trouble!
Grandmother: Interesting.
Girl:  They called it  Dummy’s Day or something…
Grandmother, feigning distraction: hmmm…
Girl, persistent:  Have you heard about it?  Where you can tell lies all day???  And then you say ‘Dummy Day!’ or something like that…Have you heard about it?  Can we do it?!?
Grandmother, flatly:  No.  Never heard of it.  Must be something the kids made up.

Top this J. Crew Burnout Tee with Printed Necklace with a perky yellow Short Trench from Uniqlo to block the early spring wind.
Have a little fun with this Bandes Tote from V73– the image of a bright leather bag is really just a print on canvas.  Toss in this Legacy Small Motif Wristlet from Coach.
Add comfy jeans and these cornflower-hued Tory Burch flats, and you’re set.
A comfy, simple tee outfit that comes accessorized and ready to go?  Sounds perfect for every day…No Foolin’
