Choose the Best Lamp

My boys have an amazing knack for breaking lamps at our house.  Here, a few quick tips to file away for Lamp-Shopping Day…
Living Room:
-Go Large, 30-34″.
-Pairs are pretty, or use two different lamps within 2″ of the same height.
Bedroom:
-Choose 28-30″ tall for best reading light.
-Try two light sockets or a three-way switch to get the most light.
-Hang a pretty mirror behind lamps to boost brightness.
May your lamps enjoy long, happy lives ;)

Try This at Home: One Dark Wall

One Dark Wall: Black, White & Girly Brights
Up the drama and add a whole lot of fun by using one dark wall in a room of your home.
Rather than being dreary, today’s dark walls are bright, fresh and modern.
The trick?
A lot of white.
A dark wall should never be left uncovered. Break up the deep color with white furniture and a gallery of white-matted art.

Ivory, Shell Pink and Sea Glass play against dramatic Brown for a quiet, sophisticated beach feel.

Details are the jewelry of a room; they make a nice place special and accent the best features.  Sometimes the smallest details in a room are our favorite.  Here’s a look at a few in my bedroom:

What special touches have you added to the rooms of your home?  I’d love to see pictures!  I’m sure they’re a warm expression of your personality.

The sheers in my room are hand-me-downs from my sister. I stitched a double band of soft gold ribbon near the hem to dress them up for their new post at my windows.
