Hallmarks of Beach House Style:
Water colors…blues, greens and soft whites are classic choices.
Easy-Going Materials, like slip-covered furnishings and un-fussy accessories, encourage a feet-up lifestyle.
Natural Elements…weathered woods, mother of pearl, sisal and seagrass hint at days by the sea.

Sweet Summer Afternoon

sweet summer afternoon
Being from Texas, iced tea was a year-round drink for our family.
But in the summertime, we would pick spearmint from the little bush that grew under mama’s kitchen window, slice a fresh lime, and mix it into tall glasses of sweet iced tea.
Mmmmm….sweet summer afternoons.

A Little Remodeling Job

MyPic (1)Are any of you remodeling right now?  It’s not nearly as glamorous as it appears on HGTV, is it?

Even if we could afford a cute little professional designer, no one ever really follows her around with a camera for the inside scoop, and they especially don’t send you out to dinner while they do all the work, do they?

When I was in high school, my family remodeled the kitchen.  The results were beautiful, but during the process, we cooked with a camp stove on the porch, and I missed what would have been my very first phone call from my future husband because I couldn’t find the phone.

I’m having to do a little remodeling on my blog this week, hence the new look today.  Just like a home, it was getting a little tight and needed a few changes to function at it’s full potential.

I’m running into a few snags along the way, so I apologize in advance if things aren’t running perfectly smooth, but I hope the end results will be beautiful!

Do you have any advice for me from someone who’s been there, done that?  And what about my Facebook Widget?  It’s not showing up on my sidebar; do any of you happen to know how to fix it?  I’d love to hear what you have to say!

Try Trompe L’oeil for April Fool’s Day

April Fools Day- Try Trompe L'oeil!
I don’t know about you, but in a house full of crazy boys, we just let April Fool’s Day pass by without ever saying  a word.
I mean, come on, do they really need an excuse to get into mischief? :)
And I know I’m not the only one;  I overheard this conversation between a first-grade-ish granddaughter and her grandmother in the grocery store one year.
Girl:  The kids at school said that today you can make things up and play tricks on people, and nobody gets in trouble!
Grandmother: Interesting.
Girl:  They called it  Dummy’s Day or something…
Grandmother, feigning distraction: hmmm…
Girl, persistent:  Have you heard about it?  Where you can tell lies all day???  And then you say ‘Dummy Day!’ or something like that…Have you heard about it?  Can we do it?!?
Grandmother, flatly:  No.  Never heard of it.  Must be something the kids made up.
If you’re out and about today, here’s a cute little outfit with a wink at the holiday:
Top this J. Crew Burnout Tee with Printed Necklace with a perky yellow Short Trench from Uniqlo to block the early spring wind.
Have a little fun with this Bandes Tote from V73– the image of a bright leather bag is really just a print on canvas.  Toss in this Legacy Small Motif Wristlet from Coach.
Add comfy jeans and these cornflower-hued Tory Burch flats, and you’re set.
A comfy, simple tee outfit that comes accessorized and ready to go?  Sounds perfect for every day…No Foolin’
